FOREWORD - Exhibition in Ljubljana
To date, the Workshop has organized four exhibitions of its collaborators: in Zagreb (1954), in Opatija (1955, 1956, 1957), and an exhibition of five in Belgrade (1956).
This exhibition in Ljubljana, which came about thanks to the invitation of the management of the State Master Workshop for Fine Arts, was established in 1947 based on the idea of Antun Augustinčić with the aim of showcasing the professional diligence of the workshop to the most talented. With the selection of works, we wanted to show the retrospective development of former and current collaborators to postgraduate students of the academies of fine and applied arts, the results achieved in various fields of visual design from brochures to oils, and thereby emphasize the postgraduate study, in short, to offer them the possibility of specialization, which they had not had as academy students until then.
MART STARTS - An Event in Our Cultural Life
The TEAM of seventeen is at the start: Krsto and Željko Hegedušić, Kamilo Tompa, Edo Kovačević, and Vilim Svečnjak from the former “Zemlja”; Zlatko Prica, Nikola Reizer, Albert Kinert, and Edo Murtić from the middle generation; and Kulmer, Dogan, Kalina, Perić, Svertasek, Lipovac, and Petlevski from the youth, along with Smokvina from Opatija. This colorful and combative squad in the competition of the first league of ULUH, in the diversity of seniors and juniors, is connected in this joint combination: a contemporary visual language.
DYNAMIC BREAKTHROUGH - On the first exhibition of the "Mart" group
Those who expected stylistic uniformity or a monotonous visual choral recitation at the first exhibition of the Martovci were just as disappointed as those who expected the seventeen from “Mart” to change their visual physiognomy overnight and thus “surprise” the public. In that sense, there are no surprises at this exhibition. We recognize each author precisely; every exhibitor has remained firmly on the ground of their own problematic, and since the seventeen are not bound by any common, dogmatic views, we find no concessions at the expense of a group program in any exhibitor.
"BLUE SALON" - Exhibition of Marinas within the Fishery Exhibition and Festival
On Sunday, August 4th, as part of the Fishery Exhibition and Festival, an exhibition of paintings on the theme of the sea titled “Blue Salon” was opened. As an introduction to the contemporary marina, we first encounter our older marinists: Crnčić, Medović, Plančić, Job, Vidović, and Dobrović, followed by 18 contemporary painters with 36 oils, three lithographs, and one chalk drawing. These include Dogan, Gliha, Haller, Petričić, Lipovac, Makanec, Ivančić, Ružička, Murtić, Šimunović, Šulentić, Masle, Pintarić, Kalina, Petlevski, Šohaj, and Edo Kovačević. At first glance, the question arises: Where are the artists from Split—Kaštelančić, Parać, Knežević, and others… Where are the Belgraders… where are the locals, Kotlar and Morović? Even many from Zagreb, who were invited, did not respond.
